Employee Benefits Unit Issues ACA Notice to All Employees

 The State of Colorado Employee Benefits Unit recently sent out a Required Notice under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Notice, entitled "New Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options and Your Health Coverage" was sent to all employees informing them of the availability of insurance coverage through the newly created Marketplace under the ACA. While all employees may not be eligible for coverage under the State of Colorado Employees Group Medical Plan, these notices were sent to everyone who is paid by the state.  

Generally, most individuals don't need to do anything if they have insurance either through their state employment or through an individual policy. As part of the ACA, starting January 1, 2014, most taxpayers will be required to maintain medical plan coverage or pay a tax penalty on their personal income tax filing.
