Registered Sprinkler Fitters

-Sprinkler Fitters are required to be registered with DFPC to perform work on Fire Suppression Systems (8 CCR 1507-11)
-Sprinkler Fitters may only work under the employ of a registered Fire Suppression System Contractor or be self-employed and registered as a Fire Suppression System Contractor
-Sprinkler Fitter Registrations are valid from July 1st to June 30th of the following year regardless of when the application is submitted
- In years that the Division adopts a new edition of the fire code or standards, a Sprinkler Fitter will be required to provide proof of passing a current exam (Denver, CSA, UA Star, other)
- The fee for a new registration is $75.00. The fee for renewals received between May 15th and August 30th is $50.00. The fee for renewals received after August 30th is $75.00.

Instructions to Register as a Sprinkler Fitter
To become registered as a Sprinkler Fitter with DFPC, applicants must provide evidence of successful completion of an accredited sprinkler fitter apprenticeship program or current authorization to practice as a sprinkler fitter in another state or jurisdiction with similar or greater requirements than DFPC or documentary evidence demonstrating the performance of at least 8000 hours of practical work experience on Fire Suppression Systems within the past 5 years.
They must pass a DFPC approved examination (STAR Fire Sprinklerfitting Mastery Exam, CSA Sprinkler Commercial On-site Competent Person Exam (ASCR2), City of Denver’s Fire Sprinkler Systems Installer Examination). They must also provide an Affidavit of Legal Residency, a copy of their current driver’s license or identification card and all associated fees.

You have the option to pay for your registration online (check or credit card) or to mail a check*. No cash payments will be accepted.
Registrations will not be issued until payment has been made.

Instructions to Renew Sprinkler Fitter Registration
Renewals will be accepted no earlier than May 15th for the July 1st registration year. Applications received prior to May 15th may be rejected and the application will need to be completed again.
Registration renewal is the responsibility of the registered individual. Registrants requesting a renewal of their Sprinkler Fitter Registration must complete an application, provide documented proof of continuing education units (CEU) and pay a renewal fee.
Registrants must document at least 2.4 CEU’s relevant to the field of fire suppression earned after July 1 of the previous year, as indicated in 1-6 below

1) Participation as a student in a seminar related to Fire Suppression Systems conducted by a Qualified Organization. 0.1 per clock hour of attendance 

2) Fire code or building code overview classes. 0.4 maximum per course
3) Attendance at NFPA and/or ICC code development hearings related to Fire Suppression Systems. 1.0 max
4) Active service on a committee or board with a fire sprinkler association or organization. 0.5 per committee or board
5) Completion of a college level course related to Fire Suppression Systems offered through a regionally accredited post-secondary institution. 1.0 per credit hour earned. 3.0 max
6) Work experience as a registered Sprinkler Fitter during the registration period (must be documented through formal letter from employer, contractor, project owner, steward, project manager, or business manager for whom the project was performed) 0.1 CEU per 100 hours worked, 1.6 max.

*The price to make a Credit Card payment to DFPC will be $0.75 plus 2.25% of the transaction amount. The flat fee for an ACH or electronic check payment is $1.00.

Since the transaction must be processed through the state’s official web portal, Colorado.gov, the payment is subject to portal pricing and under a contract administered under the authority of Colorado’s Statewide Internet Portal Authority as designated in statute CRS 24.37.7-101.
