Lakewood, CO- The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) Cañon City Helitack crew conducted the first-ever night helicopter operations training in Colorado, near the Brush Hollow Reservoir earlier this summer. Several simulations have been conducted since the initial training to test pilot proficiency and efficacy of operations.
The crew will be conducting another, potentially final, night operations currency training this week, on Wednesday, August 21st at the Fremont County Airport.
FOR ASSIGNMENT EDITORS: The event is open to media. Please RSVP with DFPCs PIO
The briefing will begin at the Cañon Helibase at 2000 hrs and actual night time flying will begin at the Brush Hollow reservoir at approximately 2200 hrs. The crew is planning on spending no more than 2 hrs of actual flight time for the training.
Possibility for delayed training: There is a possibility that due to weather or the crew being assigned to a fire, the training may be delayed to another date or potentially canceled- Updates will be sent out in advance if this occurs.
