Kara Veitch

Deputy Executive Director

Kara Veitch began her role as deputy executive director of the Department of Personnel & Administration in July 2013. In this role she is a trusted advisor to the Executive Director, responsible for the implementation of strategic initiatives, and manages the executive leadership team as the Chief of Staff.  The department provides centralized policy, guidance and support in the areas of human resources, accounting, procurement, and risk and also manages the buildings in the Capitol Complex, state fleet, mail, print, the Office of the State Architect and the Office of State Archives. 

Kara has more than 15 years of leadership, legal and executive experience, having worked as an attorney for Children’s Voices, Inc., of Boulder, as a business and real estate litigation partner at Isaacson Rosenbaum, P.C., of Denver.  Kara’s extensive experience includes litigation, advising businesses and governments, and analyzing policy implications for Colorado’s top business and organization leaders.  Kara also served as associate director of Colorado Forum, where she advised Colorado’s top business leaders on constitutional, fiscal and educational challenges facing the state.

Her civic involvement includes serving as a member of the board of directors for the Women’s Bean Project and is the immediate past-chair.  She is also on the board of directors of Colorado Legal Services.  Kara served as president of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association in 2011-2012 and on the executive committee of the Colorado Bar Association in 2009-2011.

Kara earned her juris doctorate from the University of Colorado in 2000, where she served as the president of the Student Bar Association. She also obtained her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Colorado in Environmental, Population and Organismic Biology and Environmental Conservation.  She currently is pursuing her MBA.

The City of Denver awarded Kara its prestigious Monte Pasco Civic Leadership Award in 2014.  Kara also was recognized as one of Denver Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty and the Denver Bar Association’s Young Lawyer of the Year – both in 2010.  In 2011, the Colorado Bar Association recognized Kara as the Young Lawyer of the Year.

Kara is married, has two children and lives in Denver, Colorado.
