Success Story: Kenneth and the Adams County Workforce and Business Center

June 6, 2018

Kenneth is a veteran who worked as a production assembler for many years, but in November of 2017 he was laid-off. When Kenneth came to our office, he and his family had no income. Their house was recently in a fire, and the family lost everything but the clothes they were wearing. Kenneth was in desperate need of finding a job.

Kenneth applied for the WIOA program to receive intensive job search assistance.  After assessing his needs, the WIOA Intake Specialist provided information regarding food stamps, medicaid, and TANF.  She also helped him with solving some issues that were preventing him from receiving unemployment benefits. She provided information regarding the CASH Closet at the Adams County Workforce & Business Center, and gave Kenneth the Adams County Resource Guide for immediate food and medical assistance. The intake specialist provided several job referrals and job fairs information. When the intake specialist realized that Kenneth’s job search produced no results, because the production field is saturated, she suggested to apply for tuition assistance.

With the help Kenneth received he was able to obtain food stamps assistance, medicaid, unemployment benefits, and interview clothes from the CASH Closet. After applying for tuition assistance, he is now on his way to obtain a CDLA that will make him more marketable and finally able to support his family again. He is incredibly grateful for all the help he received from the WIOA program.
