October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month

October 14, 2019 - National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is observed each October to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities. Additionally, NDEAM aims to raise awareness about the value of creating a workforce that is inclusive of all skills and talents.

Individuals with disabilities play an essential role in Colorado’s economic success. Not only do they enhance and build the diversity of our workforce, but their inclusion helps close critical skills gaps. According to the 2018 Talent Pipeline Report, 1 in 10 Coloradans have a disability. Those individuals often face multiple barriers to employment and are underutilized as resources to fortify the state’s talent pipeline. “In order to expand the labor force to meet the needs of Colorado’s economy, solutions must be tested and scaled that equip the underutilized talent pools to succeed,” the report states.

The CWDC is proud to work with several of our partners, including CDLE and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), to address these issues and ensure people with disabilities can succeed in Colorado’s workforce. As part of the Employment First Advisory Partnership, the CWDC, DVR, and other partners work to implement concrete strategies for serving more Coloradans with disabilities and ensuring their full inclusion in the workplace and the community.
