Colorado Career Conversations Training Project

Jan 9, 2020 - As an initiative of the Education Leadership Council (ELC) and on behalf of the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), the Colorado Education Initiative (CEI) is offering Colorado Career Conversation training. This free professional development opportunity is intended for individuals in Colorado who are positioned to guide career conversations. The project aims to train 5,000 individuals by June 2020 in order to expand the number of skilled advisors able to deliver a consistent career advising experience to students and others navigating career decisions throughout Colorado.

The CWDC has been working with the ELC, CDE, and CEI, as well as the Departments of Higher Education and Labor and Employment, to develop the framework and training curriculum for this project. In 2019, feedback was solicited from stakeholders about the key components of quality career advising, and that feedback informed the development of a statewide framework that outlines an aligned approach for career advising  in Colorado. CEI used the framework to develop and implement their training program, which will reach approximately 80 percent of counselors and advisors statewide if 5,000 individuals participate.

CEI is offering the training in two, four, or six hour sessions, depending on the audience, and will travel to host a training in your local area. Ideal participants include school counselors and teachers, workforce center advisors, higher education advisors, college and career navigators, or others who might have a career conversation with students or other individuals. Reimbursements for travel and other expenses to attend a training are available.
