2018 Celebration of Excellence in Apprenticeship

Nov. 20, 2018 - On Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Governor’s Residence, 19 individuals and organizations were honored for their contributions to apprenticeships in Colorado. The CWDC sponsored the event in partnership with CDLE, CDHE, and CareerWise Colorado in celebration of National Apprenticeship Week Nov. 12-18.

To kick off the event, leaders from each of the host organizations discussed the future of work and learning in Colorado, highlighting the benefits apprenticeships can have for apprentices, employers, and Colorado’s workforce as a whole. The speakers also emphasized Colorado’s role as a leader in advancing work-based learning and showcasing how collaboration across the talent development network can drive forward opportunities for the state. “Business and higher education are working together to create 21st century learning opportunities,” said CDHE Executive Director Dan Baer, “and it’s putting Colorado on the front lines of the future.”

Award recipients were then introduced and recognized for their involvement with apprenticeships. The honorees included outstanding apprentices as well as educators, business leaders, and workforce professionals who have advanced apprenticeships in Colorado. Eight outstanding apprentices were honored, including in-school youth, opportunity youth, and adult apprentices. Four employers were recognized for their apprenticeship programs, and seven additional organizations or partnerships received special recognition for supporting, growing, and championing apprenticeship opportunities in the state.
