Arapahoe High School Shooting Tragedy Reports.
As I am sure you all know the School Safety and Youth in Crisis Interim Committee (SSYCIC) met on Friday, January 22nd to hear a synopsis of the three reports on the Arapahoe High School shooting tragedy. Reports were prepared by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado, Boulder; Safe Havens International; and Linda Kanan, Ph.D. with John Nicoletti, Ph.D. Drs. Kanan and Nicoletti also released additional information to the SSYCIC linked here.
At the conclusion of the presentations on the 22nd, no legislation was discussed at that time. However, please continue to monitor proposed education bills at Chalkbeat’s Education Bill Tracker.
The Center feels a deep responsibility to study these reports, identify the commonalities, review the recommendations and training opportunities and share this information with all schools in Colorado. We believe there are valuable lessons to be learned.
In order to do that, we will be forming a working group of individuals from the SSYCIC and other appropriate professionals including those conducting threat assessments in our schools.
If you have an interest in serving on this working group, please contact me directly and I will share meeting information. (Christine.firstname.lastname@example.org)
