Spring Street Project: UPDATES

After three-years in the planning and development phase, in an effort to improve mobility, safety and the appearance of the community; the Spring Street project has officially started. This will be the first of many communications from the Central City’s Public Works Department; that will serve as the 2019 Spring Street Construction Update. We will continue to use this form of communication [In addition to the City website] as the project continues, so as to better inform those Central City Business Community members potentially impacted by the project.

August 22:

SPRING STREET PROJECT UPDATE #6:

Central City Public Works Department 2019 Spring Street Construction; Latest Update.  Lawrence Street will be added to the 2019 Paving Schedule. We will continue to use this form of communication (In addition to the City website) as the project continues, so as to better inform those Central City Business Community members potentially impacted by the projects. 

As you are already aware, the 2019 Spring Street is under progress. The project area is on Spring Street from Gregory Street and continuing south along Spring Street to Roworth Street. This project includes burying the existing overhead utilities, replacing streetlights, replacing the existing sidewalks, curbs, gutters and performing a 2” mill and overlay of the roadway pavement. Avery Construction, Inc. will be performing the construction activities on behalf of Central City. Hooper Construction is performing the work for Xcel.

Currently – Week of August 19th  - our work efforts include:

  • Avery Construction added a drop inlet in front of 130 Spring Street to tie-in the drainage improvements. Approximately 90% of the concrete work has been completed.
  • Hooper Construction continues to trench down Spring Street for Xcel’s primary wire installation. A section of the big-T lot was excavated to supply power to the point of the of the parking lot.

Week of August 26th:

  • Avery Construction will complete the concrete work the week of August 26th. You will notice sections of curb, gutter and sidewalk that were not poured during construction. These areas either contain pull-boxes for the underground utilities and/or were not poured to accommodate future light pole installations.
  • Hooper Construction will complete the trenching for the primary conduit along Spring Street, and set Xcel’s new transformers and misc. equipment.
  • Hooper ‘s asphalt division will finish removing cold-mix asphalt from the trenches in Spring Street, and replacing it with hot-mix asphalt.

Week of September 3rd (construction will not take place on Memorial Day, Monday, September 2nd):

  • Avery Construction will perform a 2” rotomill and repave the surface of Spring Street, from Gregory Street south to Roworth Street, starting Tuesday, September 3rd. This will take 2 days to complete. One travel Lane will remain open at all times.
  • Hooper Construction will continue to place Xcel’s equipment in the project area.
  • Lawrence Street, from D Street west to Spring Street have been added to the paving schedule for 2019. Work will consist of a  2” mill and overlay starting Wednesday,  September 4th.  Lawrence Street will be posted with “No Parking” signs during this period to accommodate traffic flow. One lane of travel will remain open on Lawrence Street during construction.
  • Paving operations for both streets are scheduled for completion the week of September 3rd.

Lane closures will occur, but the roadway will remain open during the project. 

August 6:

As you are already aware, the 2019 Spring Street is under progress. The project area is on Spring Street from Gregory Street and continuing south along Spring Street to Roworth Street. This project includes burying the existing overhead utilities, replacing streetlights, replacing the existing sidewalks, curbs, gutters and performing a 2” mill and overlay of the roadway pavement. Avery Construction, Inc. will be performing the construction activities on behalf of Central City. Hooper Construction is performing the work for Xcel.

 

Currently – Week of August 5th  - our work efforts include:

  • Avery Construction has completed 90% of the concrete work. You will notice sections of curb, gutter and sidewalk that were not poured during construction. These areas either contain pull-boxes for the underground utilities and/or were not poured to accommodate future light pole installations.
  • Hooper Construction continues to trench down Spring Street for Xcel’s primary wire installation.

Week of August 12th:

  • Hooper Construction will continue to bury primary conduit along Spring Street and set Xcel’s new transformers and misc. equipment.
  • Hooper Construction anticipates another two-weeks of trenching.

Future Progress:

  • Avery Construction will return to repair the pavement after Hooper Construction completes their excavation.
  • Pavement reconstruction includes full-depth replacement for some pavement sections, and a two-inch mill and overlay along the entire project.

Lane closures will occur, but the roadway will remain open during the project. All dates are contingent on weather/site conditions and subject to change. 

July 1:

This project includes burying the existing overhead utilities, replacing streetlights, replacing the existing sidewalks, curbs, gutters and performing a 2” mill and overlay of the roadway pavement. Avery Construction, Inc. will be performing the construction activities on behalf of Central City.

Currently – Week of July 1st  - our work efforts include:

  • Buried all secondary conduit
  • Replacement of the curb, gutter and sidewalk from 120 to 140 Spring St

Week of July 8th :

  • Replace curb, gutter and sidewalk from 114 to 100 Spring Street
  • Xcel will begin excavation and burial of the primary electric line on Spring Street at Roworth Street

June 24:

This project includes burying the existing overhead utilities, replacing streetlights, replacing the existing sidewalks, curbs, gutters and performing a 2” mill and overlay of the roadway pavement. Avery Construction, Inc. will be performing the construction activities on behalf of Central City.

Currently – Week of June 24th - our work efforts include:

  • Removal of the sidewalk, curb and gutter from of 120 to 114 Spring Street
  • Buried conduit for utilities in the same are
  • Replace sidewalk, curb, gutter and valley pan from 120 to 114 Spring Street

Week of July 1st:

  • Remove curb, gutter and sidewalk from 114 to 100 Spring Street
  • Excavate for the undergrounding of utilities
  • Replace sidewalk, curb, and gutter
  • Xcel will begin excavation and burial of the primary electric line at Roworth Street on Spring Street

June 13:

Currently – Week of June 10th - our work efforts include:

  • Temporary ramp for emergency egress at the Easy Street Arcade
  • Installation of (2) new drains behind Scarlet’s and Easy Street
  • Installation of new curb and gutter behind Scarlet’s and Easy Street
  • Removal of the sidewalk, curb and gutter in front of 130 Spring Street

Week of June 17th:

  • Replace the sidewalk behind Scarlet’s and Easy Street
  • Continue sidewalk, curb and gutter removal in front of 114, 110 and 100 Spring Street (temporary walk in access will be provided)
  • Begin excavation for the undergrounding of utilities

 

June 3:

You may already be aware that construction along Spring Street has begun. The project area is from Spring and Gregory Streets and continuing south along Spring Street to Roworth Street. This project includes burying the existing overhead utilities, replacing streetlights, replacing the existing sidewalks, curbs, gutters and performing a 2” mill and overlay of the roadway pavement. Avery Construction, Inc. will be performing the construction activities on behalf of the Central City.

Currently work efforts include:

  • Removal of the sidewalk behind Scarlet’s and Easy Street
  • Temporary ramp for emergency egress at the Easy Street Arcade
  • Installation of (2) new drains behind Scarlet’s and Easy Street
  • Removal of the sidewalk, curb and gutter in front of 130 Spring Street
  • Continue sidewalk, curb and gutter removal as needed

Replace curb and gutter previously removed Week of June 17th:

  • Sidewalk replacement will begin (starting behind Easy Street and Scarlets)

Lane closures will occur, but the roadway will remain open during the project.
