WQ fish consumption - Rifle Gap reservoir

Woman 18-45 years old and young children should not eat walleye greater than 15 inches in length from this lake.
Everyone else can eat 8 oz. of walleye greater than 15 inches in length from this lake per month.

Mercury tends to accumulate in fish, but not in the water itself.  So lake recreation and consumption of drinking water from park facilities are safe activities.

Fish are a healthy source of protein that are low in saturated fat and high in omega-3 fatty acids. Eating fish can be good for heart health and children’s growth and development. However, most fish contain traces of mercury. This represents a health risk that must be balanced with the benefits of fish consumption, especially for unborn and developing children.

For fish not included on the advisory please see the general guidelines.
