Private water wells
The Water Quality Control Division of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) does not regulate the water quality or provide services for private water wells. Private water wells are those that are not regulated as a public water system under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
CDPHE recommends an annual water quality test for any private water well that is used for drinking water and/or cooking. The CDPHE lab provides water quality testing for a fee. More information about water quality testing can be found through the CDPHE lab.
The Water Quality Interpretation Tool developed by Colorado State University can aid you in interpreting the results. For questions concerning potential health effects from private water wells, please contact the CDPHE via email at firstname.lastname@example.org .
