Current health navigator training programs

Currently in Colorado, there are two health navigator programs available. We hope to find sustainable ways to finance these existing programs and to grow other training programs throughout the state.
Patient Navigator Training Collaborative
Anschutz Medical Campus - Aurora
The Patient Navigator Training Collaborative offers a training program that builds health/patient navigator skills and knowledge. They offer both beginner and advanced level training through face-to-face courses, online classes, self-paced eLearning and special topic webinars. These courses teach navigators how to overcome barriers to health care, health promotion skills, how to maintain professional relationships, care coordination, emotional aspects of disease, and legal and ethical issues.
For more information on classes, training and downloadable resources, see the Patient Navigator Training Collaborative website.
Otero Junior College
La Junta
Otero Junior College offers a Health Navigator Associate of Applied Science Degree and Certificates. The program includes courses on linking patients with services, providing information and resources, assisting providers in interacting with their patients, and providing health education and promoting behavior change. This training enables health/patient navigators to work with the health care team to reduce barriers to care and assist individuals and their families through the complex health care system ensuring they receive the services most appropriate for them. Otero Junior College also offers a distance learning option and have scholarships and financial aid available to those who qualify.
