Funding Opportunity Details

Currently, there is significant evidence demonstrating that sexually transmitted infections (STIs) enhance the transmission of HIV. Colorado is experiencing increasingly high rates of STIs. From 2014 to 2018 in Colorado, STI rates increased by 43% overall. More specifically, Chlamydia increased by 25%, Gonorrhea by 164%, and Syphilis by 111%. As a result, CDPHE contends that addressing STIs, particularly STIs often undiagnosed in extragenital sites, is a public health priority which can be incorporated within the HIV Prevention portfolio to impact HIV incidence at the individual, community, and systems-level in identified prioritized community areas.

The goal of this project is to:

  1. Encourage and support extragenital STI testing,

  2. Report enhanced data elements (anatomic site of infection, sex at birth, current gender, including transgender identity, and sex of partner) among providers,

  3. Address the relationship between HIV and STIs within communities served,

  4. Address the relationship between repeated STIs as a risk accelerator for HIV acquisition,

  5. Promote prevention services including partner services, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), Linkage to Care (LTC), and Treatment as Prevention (TasP)
