Smithfield Pet is a protein processing facility that employs approximately 120 employees. Smithfield Pet received fresh or frozen organ and materials from ruminant and non-ruminant animals (beef, lamb, chicken, bison) that are not used for human consumption. These materials are ground through size reduction, then blended and packaged for use in processing meat protein ingredients for the pet food industry.

We are committed to protecting the environment through pollution prevention and continual improvement of our environmental practices. We seek to demonstrate responsible corporate citizenship by complying with relevant environmental legislation and regulations. Here at Smithfield Pet, we believe that the protection of the environment is the responsibility of all of our employees.

We are committed to environmental stewardship and has worked to significantly reduce our water and energy use and the amount of waste we send to landfill. We continue to pursue challenging sustainability targets that call for even greater improvements and resource efficiency. Some of our achievements include:
  • 68.9% decrease in solid waste to landfill since 2015.
  • 529,300 pounds of cardboard recycled in 2017.
  • 5,432,000 pounds of waste composted in 2017.
