The Pitkin County Solid Waste Center is a sanitary landfill that serves the Roaring Fork Valley on Colorado's Western Slope. We have a 60% diversion rate through compost, recycling and aggregate programs. The services that are offered include: US Compost Council certified Compost and Potting Soil production and sales (bagged and bulked), Aggregate crushing and sales (products include screened gravel, roadbase, crushed concrete roadbase, boulders, riprap, fill and topsoil), single-stream recycling, mattress recycling, clothing/textile recycling, book recycling, metal scrap recycling, tire disposal, electronic disposal, latex paint recycling, Household Hazardous waste recycling and disposal.

We have many education and outreach programs to teach the general public, waste haulers and school children. We offer a Living Lab Workshop to teach about the relationship between waste management, sustainability and small acreage land management and home gardening.
