CIIS and electronic health records

How does CIIS support interoperability?
CIIS has developed tools to eliminate the need for your practice to enter immunization information twice. The first tool is the CIIS Resource Center (CRC), which allows you to register and complete testing of HL7 immunization messages. The second is a real-time messaging gateway which supports bi-directional communication between CIIS and your electronic health record system (EHR).

Meaningful Use guidance
As a part of Meaningful Use, CDPHE has both the technical and administrative capacity to support electronic lab reporting, immunization reporting and cancer registry reporting. Guidance on what the Meaningful Use process will look like for your facility is listed below:

Registration:

  • Register your intent to attest to one or more public health reporting objectives by completing enrollment in the Colorado Public Health Reporting portal (CoPHR).
    • You must complete the Registration of Intent (ROI) form documenting your intent to submit ongoing public health reporting data for successful Meaningful Use attestation.
    • Sites wishing to onboard for immunization reporting but not attest for Meaningful Use should declare this intent via email to cdphe.ciis@state.co.us

Requirement review:

  • Review the requirements and guidance for the public health reporting objective(s) you want to achieve by visiting our Meaningful Use page and selecting the appropriate link for your specific reporting objective(s).

Onboarding:

  • You’ll be contacted by us or your local public health agency facilitating the onboarding process for the public health reporting objective(s) included in your online Registration of Intent submission.
  • Details about the onboarding process for each public health reporting objective can be found on our Meaningful Use page.

Acknowledgement:

  • Official acknowledgement for Meaningful Use can be obtained by printing your Meaningful Use Report Card from CoPHR.
  • Four situations will help you satisfy the Meaningful Use measure of ongoing submission:
    • Your ongoing submission was achieved in the previous reporting period and continues throughout the current reporting period.
    • You registered your intent to begin ongoing submission with us within 60 days of the start of the reporting period and ongoing submission was achieved.
    • Your registration of intent to initiate ongoing submission was made by the deadline and you are still engaged in testing and validation.
    • You registered your intent to initiate ongoing submission and are awaiting invitation from us to begin testing and validation.
