Correct or change name or other details, change sex on birth certificate
 
Effective January 1, 2020, individuals may request a change to the current sex identified on a Colorado birth certificate in accordance with C.R.S. 25-2-113.8, Birth certificate modernization act.
 
On Dec. 19, 2018, the Board of Health approved the proposed changes to "5 CCR 1006-1, Vital Statistics". The revised rule went into effect on Feb. 14, 2019.
 
NOTE: Individuals who previously obtained an amended birth certificate under the provisions of the Colorado Board of Health regulation 5 CCR 1006-1 Section 5.5 (C)(2) between Feb. 14, 2019 – Dec. 31, 2019 may request a new certificate without the amendment. Please follow the instructions on how to correct or change to a birth certificate.
