Animal and livestock feeding operations



If you anticipate housing more animals than you are permitted or registered for as a result of disruptions in the supply chain from COVID-19, please submit a variance request. Once this form is submitted, you can begin increasing animal numbers provided you:


1. Maintain records of the number of animals above the registered or permitted capacity in the facility's production area, dates of when animals started being confined above the capacity, and when they left.
2. Ensure the facility has adequate storage capacity for the additional manure and wastewater that may be generated from the confinement of  additional animals in the production area.
The Environmental Agriculture Program focuses on permitting and compliance Assurance at Colorado's animla feeding operations. We strive to implement state and federal law in a reasonalble manner to protect Colorado's natural resources. Our regulations aply to the following types of livestock facilites:
  • Animal feeding operations (AFOs).
  • Concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).
  • Housed commercial swine feeding operations (HCSFOs).
