Rachel Herlihy, M.D., MPH, branch director and state epidemiologist
Colorado statute requires us to monitor, investigate and control the causes of epidemic and communicable diseases affecting the state's public health. We maintain the Web-based, statewide
Colorado Electronic Disease Reporting System, or CEDRS.
We provide guidance and technical assistance to local health departments.
As part of the CDC-funded Emerging Infections Program network, our additional activities in metropolitan Denver include:
Determining the population-based incidence and trends of selected invasive bacterial diseases, foodborne/enteric diseases, health care associated infections, and monitoring influenza-associated hospitalizations.
Determining risk factors for selected infections.
Evaluating prevention efforts for selected infections.
