Colorado statute requires us to monitor, investigate and control the causes of epidemic and communicable diseases affecting the state's public health. We maintain the Web-based, statewide Colorado Electronic Disease Reporting System, or CEDRS. We provide guidance and technical assistance to local health departments.

As part of the CDC-funded Emerging Infections Program network, our additional activities in metropolitan Denver include:
  1. Determining the population-based incidence and trends of selected invasive bacterial diseases, foodborne/enteric diseases, health care associated infections, and monitoring influenza-associated hospitalizations.
  2. Determining risk factors for selected infections.
  3. Evaluating prevention efforts for selected infections.
