Workforce Development Month to Offer a Variety of Statewide Events in September
(DENVER) -- Governor John Hickenlooper has issued a proclamation declaring September Workforce Development Month in Colorado.
Almost 3 million workers make up the state’s labor force. There are more than 170,000 Colorado businesses keeping Colorado strong. During the next four weeks, state and county run employment offices called Workforce Centers will partner with the Department of Labor and Employment to spotlight a wealth of services and resources available to those workers and the companies that hire them.
Workforce Development Month began modestly in 2004 with just a handful of events. Now well into its second decade, the annual series of events has grown to include a wide array of workshops, open houses, hiring events (both in-person and online), employer seminars and more.
Throughout September, Colorado’s Workforce Centers will be teaming with the Department of Labor and Employment to offer a variety of statewide events including job fairs, open houses, workshops and seminars. For a full listing of events, see the calendar at www.colorado.gov/cdle.
In September of 2011, the Department of Labor and Employment hosted its first online hiring event. This September, the Department will begin its fifth year of offering virtual job fairs by unveiling a fresh and modern web design for those events with features that bring job seekers and employers together in a user-friendly environment.
Each week during Workforce Development Month, the Department of Labor and Employment will focus on a different industry, providing educational requirements, job trends, openings and more. During Technology Week, for example, an app version of Connecting Colorado, the Department of Labor and Employment’s popular job bank website will be introduced in September. The app makes navigation easier for users who want to track job listings while on the go.
