Trinidad Workforce Center to Host "Youth Rocks Trinidad" on April 24th
Now in its fifth year, event will focus on resources to build a successful future
With the school year coming to a close, the Trinidad Workforce Center holds its fifth annual Youth Rocks Trinidad event for teens interested in exploring the workforce landscape that lies ahead.
Youth Rocks Trinidad
Date: Friday, April 24
Time: 1 PM to 5 PM
Location: Trinidad Workforce Center, 140 North Commercial
During the event, young people can learn about job opportunities with several employers ready to offer summer jobs to high school and college students. Already committed to attend are the City of Trinidad, Trinidad Lake State Park, Monument Lake and the Movie Picture Showhouse.
As important as spending money is for young workers, the real value of a summer job doesn’t simply lie in a paycheck, stresses Sheri Files of the Trinidad Workforce Center. “A job provides valuable training to students, teaching them how to be successful. It adds a unique companion piece to classroom learning. The experience teaches young people the value of commitment, about gaining confidence and working with others.”
More than a job fair, Youth Rocks Trinidad offers participants the opportunity to talk with staff from the Trinidad Workforce Center about how to get ahead – in the short term and the longterm as well. This is the time in a teen’s life to learn how to be successful in a job interview and how to manage money. Youth that bring their resume to the event can have it critiqued.
Youth Rocks Trinidad is sponsored by the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt, a Colorado program administered by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment and its Workforce Centers statewide.
Now in its 35th year of operation, the program matches young people’s skills and interests with employment opportunities. Last year, the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt assisted more than 38,000 young people in finding summer jobs and learning about workplace expectations.
