Workforce Center To Join City and County Partners at Touber Building

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment has announced it is relocating the Salida Workforce Center from 141 East 3rd Street to office space nearby in the Touber Building, 448 East 1st Street. The move will take place during the week of August 4 and no major disruption is services is expected.

The Workforce Center will be closed August 4 and 5 as furtniture and IT equipment is moved and will be open for business at its new location on Wednesday, August 6. The phone number will change to 719-530-5980.

The historic Touber Building has ties to Salida’s railroading history. The Denver & Rio Grande Hospital was the original occupant in 1885, serving railroad employees and their families. Today, the Touber Building has been renovated and updated and is now beautiful and technologically up-to-date.

The new offices are being provided by the City of Salida, explains Ellen Golombek, executive director of the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment which operates the Workforce Center. “We are very grateful to the City of Salida for providing us with this new location. We will share space with the Chaffee County Department of Human Services, the Colorado Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and other city and county offices. These service providers shares our commitment to strengthening the local economy so co-locating with them is a perfect fit.”

While the Salida Workforce Center is part of a statewide network of employment and training offices, it is also very much a part of the community in which it operates. Local businesses will continue to play an active role in ensuring that the Workforce Center is meeting their needs. Employers in Chaffee County can turn to the Workforce Center for customized recruiting, screening of skilled applicants, on-the-job training incentives, assistance with tax credits and information on employment law.

For job seekers, the Salida Workforce Center provides the tools to build a better future. “We look forward to continuing to work with the people of Chaffee County. We want the citizens of Salida to know that the same services we have provided them in the past will continue to be provided at our new location.”
