On Tuesday, April 25, the Lamar Workforce Center will hold a Job and Resource Fair called “Spring Into Action.”  The event is designed to connect job seekers with a wide variety of job opportunities.

Spring Into Action
Date: Tuesday, April 25
Time: 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Location: Lamar Resource and Senior Center
407 East Olive Street in Lamar
Refreshments will be provided

Representatives from 12 to 15 businesses will be at the event with full-time and part-time positions to be filled.  Among the participating employers are Lamar Estates, High Plains Community Health Center, Core Civic Correctional Facility, Lamar Police Department, Loaf N Jug, and Loves Travel Stops & Country Stores.

“Come prepared and hiring managers and recruiters will be impressed,” says Betty Velasquez, Regional Director of the Lamar Workforce Center.  “It’s a time to get your questions answered when visiting with recruiters.  If you’re ready, as its name implies, ‘Spring Into Action’ can be a major turning point for you.”

But the event is more than a job fair.  “A wealth of resources are available to people,” Velasquez says, “and this event provides an opportunity to learn about them.  Representatives from numerous agencies will be on hand to talk about what they provide and answer questions.”  Among the agencies will be Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Lamar community College, Welcome Home Child & Family Development Center, and Lamar OJC/CDS Headstart.

Staff from the Lamar Workforce Region will also be on hand to talk with job seekers about their career goals and how to reach them.  Companies that anticipate hiring in the near future will talk with job seekers and gather résumés and applications so job seekers with résumés should bring them to the event.

Having an account with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s job bank called Connecting Colorado (www.connectingcolorado.com) is helpful but is not required.  People interested in attending Spring Into Action can learn more by contacting Elva Macias or Kyla Sather of the Lamar Workforce Center at 719-336-2256.
