H-1B Technical Skills Training
Advancing Colorado’s Highly Skilled Workforce
The H-1B Technical Skills Training Program provides education, training and job placement assistance to highly-skilled incumbent workers and long-term unemployed U.S. workers in the occupations and industries for which employers are using H-1B visas to hire foreign workers. The program targets the following industries:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Information Technology
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, with focus on Aerospace
This program will target 797 workers statewide, upgrading their skills in information technology, advanced manufacturing and Scientific, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics capabilities. Of the individuals selected, at least 558 will be incumbent workers whose skills need upgrading to ensure they stay employed. The grant will also speed the rehire of 239 long-term unemployed workers at a minimum. A priority of service will be offered to veterans, minorities and women.
The H-1B Technical Skills Training Program provides funding for 100% of the tuition costs for eligible training. Participating businesses have contributed $2 million to date by providing paid time for employees to participate in the training. Businesses can choose the training provider or utilize the workforce system’s network of training providers.
