Families First Coronavirus Response Act

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act takes effect 04/02/2020. This act of Congress provides paid family medical leave and paid sick leave for employees directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Neither of these benefits are paid through state unemployment insurance programs.

  • The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) has been expanded to include workers who are unable to work because of school or childcare-provider closings.

  • Emergency Paid Sick Leave covers workers who:

    • Are caring for minor children as a result of school or childcare-provider closings,

    • Are self-quarantined as ordered or advised to care for an individual who is self-quarantined, or to seek a medical diagnosis if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

  • Additional covered conditions may be added at the discretion of the federal government.
