Forensic Community Based Services

Forensic Community Based Services (FCBS) is an outpatient program at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHIP) responsible for management of persons found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) as they transition from institution to community.  The goals of this specialized team are to assist in the patient’s ongoing recovery, in the least restrictive setting, while ensuring community safety. Individuals remain under the authority of the Colorado Department of Human Services, with judicial oversight.  The FCBS program provides a broad array of clinical support, case management, and resource linkage for the patient, as well as consultation, training, and networking for Community Mental Health Centers (CMHC) and other partner agencies. Through the program’s intensive services, NGRI patients on Community Placement and Conditional Release have the opportunity to safely advance his or her capacity for social responsibility, independence, and psychiatric stability.  All referrals to FCBS are generated by the CMHIP inpatient treatment team.
