Sabina Genesio is 2018 CDHS Employee of the Year

Sabina Genesio has been named the 2018 Colorado Department of Human Services Employee of the Year.

CDHS Reggie Bicha awards Sabina Genesio as 2018 Employee of the Year Sabina is the chief financial officer for the Colorado Mental Health Institutes, a position she has held since January 2013. Sabina oversees the budget and financial functions at the Mental Health Institutes and the Jail-based Restoration Program. She allocates spending authority and makes critical decisions about how to adjust funding levels.

Executive Director Reggie Bicha congratulates Employee of the Year winner Sabina Genesio and gives her a CDHS pin.

“Sabina is a tireless advocate to make sure we’re being good stewards of taxpayer dollars, and to secure additional resources from the legislature to expand the hospital’s capacity and the array of services we provide,” said Executive Director Reggie Bicha in an email to all staff last week.

Sabina was presented with the award during the Office of Behavioral Health’s C-Stat meeting on Wednesday.

“I am both honored and humbled by this award,” Sabina said. “I'm honored to represent OBH and the great work this office does, and humbled because I work with very talented and dedicated individuals who are equally deserving of this recognition. I'm also a firm believer that success is not an individual effort, so I am grateful to all those who have mentored and supported me in the past, and thankful to the amazing staff I have on my team.”

More than 100 people were nominated for the award, but Reggie said the Senior Executive Team chose to honor Sabina because she consistently demonstrates strong leadership, has an outstanding work ethic, and is deeply dedicated to the patients at our Mental Health Institutes.

“She’s competent, creative, personable, and always willing to step in and help where she’s needed -- even when it means frequent drives from Pueblo to Denver,” Reggie said. “Although most of her work occurs behind the scenes, countless patients have directly benefited from her efforts.”

Sabina will receive a plaque, a gift card and department-wide recognition. She will also join Reggie at the annual awards luncheon for State of Colorado Employee of the Year winners on May 11 at the Governor’s Residence in Denver.
