Talent and Teamwork at Gilliam Youth Services Center
What is the best way to spruce up a plain wall? Add a beautifully crafted mural. DYS youth, in partnership with the City of Denver's Urban Arts Fund, created this work of art in the gymnasium at Gilliam Youth Services Center. Twelve youth from Lookout Mountain and Gilliam Youth Services Center put hard work into completing the project. Martin Friedman, a Client Manager in the Central region headed up the project. "This group of students did an amazing job with not only the painting, but the Restorative Community Justice (RCJ) processing piece. I am really Impressed with what they knew and what they learned during the process." Youth were very excited about what they contributed to the Gilliam community and were heard saying, "now we hang out together and we do things together-we feel like a family."
