Forum planned for National Recovery Month

Every year, in recognition of September as National Recovery Month, the Office of Behavioral Health hosts a community research forum. This year’s forum, “Supported Education: Where We Have Been and Where We are Going,” will be held on Sept. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan, 3550 West Oxford Avenue, Denver. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

National Recovery Month aims to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people who recover.

The forum will be presented by Scott Kupferman, a professor from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, and will focus on defining Supported Education (SEd), a relatively new addition to the toolkit for supporting people in their recovery. SEd can be seen in many ways as an extension of school-based mental health services. This forum will give an opportunity for practitioners to have an open dialogue for what SEd will look like in Colorado's future.Every year, in recognition of September as National Recovery Month, the Office of Behavioral Health hosts a community research forum.
