Lifeguard Certification Classes

The Canon City Area Receation and Park District is looking for lifeguards at the R.C. Icabone Swimming Pool this summer.  In order to be considered for hire you must be certified and there are a series of classes coming up in the month of May.  Lifeguard certification is not a guarantee of employment.  You will learn how to effectively prevent and respond to water emergencies with the American Red Cross lifeguard training.  Our courses are designed to arm you with the skills and knowledge to prepare you for a variety of scenarios in and around the water.  With our lifguard training, you will learn how quick response times and effective preparation are vital to being a lifeguard while also understanding the crucial elements in helping to prevent drownings and injuries.  The information on the classes is listed below.

When:     New Lifeguard Training is May 9, 10, and 11 from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm and May 12th 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

                 Lifeguard Recertification is May 12th 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Where:    Classes will take place at the Icabone Swimming Pool and Recreation District offices

Lifeguard Certification:
       --Cost is $235 for lifeguard certification and first aid/CPR Training (This is a resume builder)
       --Price of certification includes:  Lifeguard training, first aid/CPR training and certificate.  Certificate is valid for 2 years.
       --Must be at least 15-years old.

Re-certification for lifeguard and first aid/CPR:
       --May 12th only 
       --Cost is $135

Water Safety Instructor (WSI):
       --Cost is $335
       --Starting pay for a lifeguard with WSI Certification is $9.60 per hour
       --WSI will allow you to teach swimming lessons and make more money!
       --If hired by the Canon City Area Recreation and Park District, the $335 fee to get your WSI Certification can by arranged to be paid back through payroll deductions until the fee is repaid (WSI only, not lifeguard cert.)
       --Must be at least 15-years old to be WSI
