James "Kalem" Lenard

Kalem grew up in the Central Valley of California and went to college in Oregon where he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Geography from Portland State University.  His first job out of college landed him in eastern Nevada where he was introduced to public land management, sparking his interest and passion for recreation planning and management.  While in Nevada he started a trails advocacy organization and spent several years planning and developing trails before receiving a position with the Bureau of Land Management as an Outdoor Recreation
Planner.

In 2010 an Outdoor Recreation Planner position for the BLM Royal Gorge Field Office brought him to Canon City with his wife Tenille and their two young children Mason and Maya.  Most weekends he and his family can be found taking advantage of all the great recreation Colorado has to offer; skiing powder in the winter time, exploring the trails of the region both on bike and on foot, and most recently adventures on the river and the rocks. He hopes to bring his twelve years of recreation management experience to help the Parks and Recreation District and the greater community achieve their recreation and quality of life goals.
