Office of Professional Standards
The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) is responsible for receiving, processing, and investigating the compliments and complaints made regarding members of the CBI from the public. Compliments and/or complaints may be made to the OPS by the public through the CBI website, in person, in writing, or by mail. Each compliment or complaint will receive a response either from the OPS or a member of the CBI which may be assigned responsibility to assist in the matter.
The OPS is also responsible for investigating internal affairs investigations which may be received through the compliment and complaint process, or through any other means. Each investigation is handled objectively within strict best industry proven best practice guidelines. Internal Affairs Statistics may be found in the CBI Annual Report on the CBI website.
Additional OPS responsibilities also include ongoing development of policy, ensuring each policy is in compliance with standards set by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The OPS is also responsible for conducting departmental staff inspections, drug screening, and training to assist in ensuring that departmental policies are being met by all members of the Bureau.
