Southern Colorado Scam Alert—Caller Poses as CBI Agent, Demands Cash

03/22/2018—The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regional office in Pueblo has received reports of an 'agent’ representing the Bureau, and with a CBI phone number, calling individuals to pay a fine to avoid an arrest in connection with a case.

During the call, the scammer identifies himself by the name of a CBI employee. Unfortunately, this has occurred on several occasions in recent weeks. This is a scam! The CBI would never call an individual and threaten an arrest if a debt, fine or other fee was not paid.

If you receive a call of this nature, simply hang up the phone and do not engage the caller. You can report the information to the CBI either via phone (1-855-443-3489), 24 hours per day, or via email (CBI.StopIDTheft@state.co.us).
