Formal Charges Filed in Rocky Ford Child Death Case
(06/12/2017)—Formal charges have been filed against a Rocky Ford man for his alleged role in the death of a toddler in May.
The 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office filed the following charges against Ryan Casias (DOB: 06/19/96) of Rocky Ford:
- Count 1: Murder in the First Degree – child under Twelve- Position of Trust (F1)
- Count 2: Child Abuse Resulting in Death (F2).
Casias is due in court for a hearing on the Defendant’s Motion for Bond Reduction, and for numerous defense motions at the Otero County District Courthouse in La Junta beginning at 8:30 a.m. on June 30, 2017.

(May 26, 2017—CBI—Pueblo, CO)—An arrest has been made in the Rocky Ford child death investigation from May 20, 2017.
Ryan Casias (DOB: 06/19/96) of Rocky Ford was arrested on suspicion of child abuse resulting in death.
Casias was taken to the Otero County Jail where he is being held on $150,000 bond. Casias is scheduled for advisement at the Otero County District Courthouse in La Junta, beginning at 11:00 am on Friday, May 26, 2017.
Police were called to a Rocky Ford home on a call of an unresponsive child on May 20, 2017. Jayleianna Trujillo (DOB: 12/12/2015) was transported to the hospital for treatment and later died.
Casias is the boyfriend of the victim's mother.
Colorado Bureau of Investigation agents from the Pueblo Regional Office are working with the Rocky Ford Police Department and the 16th Judicial District Attorney's Office on this active investigation.
