CBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Saguache County

02/15/2017—A Moffat man faces charges after threatening law enforcement with a firearm, and was shot just after 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2017.

Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies, with assistance from a Colorado State Patrol (CSP) trooper, were called to a Saguache County home (62301 County Road EE) outside of the town of Moffat on a call involving a man with a gun on Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, the three responding SCSO deputies and the CSP trooper identified themselves as law enforcement prior to making contact with the male who was inside the home.

Jason Ingalsbe (DOB: 11/7/1971) began yelling at officers and exited the residence with a handgun, pointing the weapon at the responding deputies. Two of the SCSO deputies then fired at Ingalsbe, possibly wounding the subject. Ingalsbe was transported to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound.

Ingalsbe was later booked into the Saguache County Jail on charges of Attempted First Degree Assault and Felony Menacing. Ingalsbe is being held on $75,000 dollar bond.

Two SCSO deputies were placed on administrative leave by Saguache County Sheriff Dan Warwick, per the policy of the sheriff’s office. The names of the deputies are not being released at this time.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has been requested to lead the investigation, and is working in cooperation with the CSP, SCSO and the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
