Federal Firearm Licencee (FFL) Information

Firearm Transfer Background Checks Submitted by ATF Federal Firearm Licencees (FFLs) Only

Please see the Important Notice posted by the ATF regarding the effective date of the new ATF Form 4473. The use of this form will be required for all firearm background checks submitted to the CBI Firearms InstaCheck Unit as of January 16, 2017.

Important Notice to All Federal Firearms Licensees

ATF Form 4473, Firearms Transaction Record (Form 4473) has been revised. This page highlights the significant changes to the form. It is highly suggested that you review the entire revised form including all of the Notices, Instructions, and Definitions.

All Federal firearms licensees (FFLs) must begin using this form on January 16, 2017.  After that date, you may no longer use the previous edition (April 2012) of the Form 4473 as it will be obsolete. The revised form is available to either download or order at the ATF.GOV website.

Effective January 9, 2017, reversal notifications sent to Federal Firearm Licensees (FFLs) by the InstaCheck Appeals section will be delivered through the mail or email only.

FFLs will receive these written notifications when their customer has been reversed within 30 days of the original transaction. 

We are requesting any FFL that would like to receive this notification via e-mail, to please send a request to the InstaCheck Appeals section at: CDPS_CBI_InstaCheck_Appeals@State.CO.US 

Please ensure that the request includes the full FFL number, store name and a statement asking to have the reversal notifications sent via e-mail. FFLs that do not provide the requested information, will receive ​hard copy notifications through the mail only.
