Access Levels

ViCAP Access

ViCAP allows for a variety of accesses.  Each agency will designate the level of access.  This stems from view only to the ability to enter, modify and cancel.  Each user given the access to enter, modify, cancel records will only be able to do so for their agency. 

 

LEA Manager:

The LEA Manager role allows the user to:

1. Create, update, delete, and read his/her own agency’s cases (to include the LEA Worksheet, LEA Addendum, Images, and Holdback Information);

2. Read all cases shared nationwide;

3. Query cases by Name, ViCAP number, Agency case number, Full text, and advanced “Ad Hoc” parameters;

4. Create and update LEA users and their roles within his/her own agency or within other agencies to which the LEA Manager has been assigned (e.g.: pursuant to a hub arrangement). 

Act as the point of contact between his/her agency and FBI ViCAP. 

· Typically, this role will be assigned to crime analysis unit managers or supervisory-level investigators who are most familiar with the ViCAP Web application.

 

LEA Analyst:

The LEA Analyst role allows the user to:

1. Create, update, delete, and read his/her own agency’s cases (to include the LEA Worksheet, LEA Addendum, Images, and Holdback Information);

2. Read all cases shared nationwide;

Query cases by name, ViCAP number, agency case number, full text, and advanced “Ad Hoc” parameters.

· Typically, this role will be assigned to crime analysts or investigators who are familiar with the ViCAP Web application, and who have experience with constructing database queries.

 

LEA Case Entry:

The LEA Case Entry role allows the user to:

1. Create, update, and read his/her own agency’s cases (to include the LEA Worksheet, LEA Addendum, Images, and Holdback Information);

Query cases by name, ViCAP number, and agency case number — viewing only his/her own agency’s cases.

· Typically, this role will be assigned to personnel who are authorized by the LEA Manager to enter cases and to make updates to existing cases.

 

LEA Case Reader:

The LEA Case Reader role allows the user to:

1. Read his/her own agency’s cases (to include the LEA Worksheet, LEA Addendum, Images, and Holdback Information);

2. Read all cases shared nationwide;

3. Query cases by name – viewing only his/her own agency’s cases;

Query cases by ViCAP number and agency case number – viewing cases shared nationwide.

· Typically, this role will be assigned to investigators, supervisory personnel and police executives who have a need to view cases but not to modify information.
