Types of marriage records held by the Colorado State Archives: 

  • Marriage License
  • Marriage Application
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Marriage Record or Register

Note: Most Colorado marriage records DO NOT include the names of the parents’ of the bride and groom.

How to Find Information

A Statewide Marriage Index covering the years 1890-1939 is included in our Archives Search database.

The Marriage Index is a good place to start your research. It is an alphabetical listing that contains the:

  • Name of each spouse
  • Date of the marriage
  • County
  • Marriage license number

Not all records indexed are held by the Colorado State Archives.

Records NOT held by State Archives the can be found by contacting the County Clerk & Recorder of the county in which the marriage took place.
