How does a county obtain approval to use this record retention schedule?
The Approval Request Form must be completed and returned to our office. Once approved, the county's name will be added to this site (Counties APPROVED). It is recommended that the county adopt by resolution use of this schedule.
This records management manual will not provide legal authority or authorization for destruction of county records by any county until it is approved for use for that county by the Colorado State Archives. Additionally, no record shall be destroyed if it pertains to any current or pending litigation.
The approval will remain in effect indefinitely or until rescinded by the county or State Archivist. Counties using this record retention schedule will be required to report yearly record destruction statistics to our office.
