Broomfield, Colo. -  With the spread of COVID-19 in Colorado and the concern that surfaces and objects may be contaminated, consumers are reminded that disinfectants/antimicrobials and antiviral cleaning or disinfecting agents are pesticides and must be registered with EPA and the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) prior to being sold in the state. Pesticides must also be applied according to their label directions to ensure their safety and effectiveness.
On July 23, 2020, CDA issued a cease-and-desist order to Pure Bella Vita LLC, dba Dr. Joe's Pro (Joe’s Pro), ordering it to cease and desist from selling and distributing an unregistered pesticide, Dr. Joe's Pro Commercial Strength Disinfectant, in Colorado. Joe’s Pro marketed this product to hospitals, health care facilities, schools, restaurants, and the general public for the control of viruses, bacteria, algae, fungi, mold, and other claims.
CDA is requesting to be informed of any distribution of Dr. Joe's Pro Commercial Strength Disinfectant in Colorado. Please send invoices of such sales, comments or questions to CDA at PesticidesPrograms@state.co.us, attention John Scott, Pesticides Program Manager.
