Commissioner Brown Announces New Deputy Commissioner
BROOMFIELD, Colo. –Chris Wiseman, of Pueblo, has been named Deputy Commissioner for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Wiseman assumed his responsibilities on April 1, 2015 and is the current Colorado State Fair General Manager. He will assume both roles until the end of the 2015 Fair; at that point, a search for Wiseman’s replacement at the Fair will begin.
“The Deputy Commissioner is a vital role in the management of the Colorado Department of Agriculture; I’m pleased Chris has accepted this challenging and rewarding responsibility,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Don Brown. “Chris’s dedication to the agricultural community and to serving the people of Colorado has been evident throughout his career.”
Wiseman, 54, began his association with the Fair while serving as an aide to former Governor Roy Romer. In 1996, Romer assigned him to assist in the expo’s return to state government. In 1998, Chris became Assistant Manager of the Fair and in October of 2004, he was named General Manager. Chris now oversees the year-round operations of the Fairgrounds and is dedicated to building a strong financial future for the expo, while educating youth on the importance of agriculture in Colorado.
Wiseman is a Pueblo native and holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Sociology from CSU-Pueblo. Chris spent six years as a staff member for Colorado Senator Tim Wirth. During his time with Senator Wirth, Chris worked as the Southern Colorado Office Director in charge of natural resources, water, and economic development.
“Agriculture, in one form or another, has been the centerpiece of my career and I believe this appointment is the culmination of my experience. I believe that a strong, vibrant agricultural industry is the cornerstone of this state and provides a better quality of life for us all,” said Wiseman.
The principal responsibilities of the Deputy Commissioner include coordinating policy development and implementation, oversee the management of the Department’s divisions, and assisting the Commissioner in achieving the Department goals.
