...NWS Spotter Talk Scheduled for Residents of Kit Carson County Colorado…

 The National Weather Service (NWS) in Goodland and Kit Carson County Emergency Management invite you to attend a free Storm Spotter Class in Burlington open to everyone. This year’s training will be held Monday, March 18th at 6:30 pm MST in the Burlington Ambulance Building at 1576 Lowell Avenue.

See new videos and pictures that illustrate important thunderstorm features.

  • Identify tornadoes from their look-alikes.
  • Learn how to stay safe while weather spotting, and what not to do during hazardous weather.
  • Listen to a brief discussion from county officials about actions they take based on your weather reports.
  • Participate in live polling to reinforce key principles.  To participate in the live polling, please bring your cell phone. 

Spotter reports are key to improving the quality and timeliness of our products during hazardous weather.  Don’t under estimate the value of your report during severe weather!  We need your help in keeping our communities safe and making them more resilient to the impacts of hazardous weather.

PRESS RELEASE CONCERNING SNAP FOOD PRGRAM

As you know the federal government is under a partial shutdown.  There have been many questions regarding WIC and I wanted to give you an update in case you are asked about the WIC Program. 

Per Heide Hoffmann, Colorado WIC Director, Colorado has enough reserve funds available to provide both operational funding and food purchases through January 2019
