State Medical Assistance and Services Advisory Council

The Colorado State Medical Assistance and Services Advisory Council exists to improve and maintain the quality of Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid program) by:

  • Contributing specialized knowledge and experience to that available within HCPF, and
  • Providing a two-way channel of communication with the individuals, organizations, and institutions in the community that, with the administering Agency, provide and/or pay for medical care and services. 

Meetings are held every other month from 6 to 7:30pm on the fourth Wednesday of that particular month.  Meetings take place virtually. Members of the public are welcome but they must request an invitation by contacting Jerrilyn.Chavez@state.co.us

Council Creation and History

The Medical Care Advisory Committee was created in 1967 and operates in accordance with 42 CFR 431.12 (Code of Federal Regulations) based on section 1902(a)(4) of the Social Security Act.  It was established as the Colorado State Medical Assistance and Services Advisory Council under Section 25.5-4-203 C.R.S. (Colorado Revised Statutes).

The Board has a representative from HCPF and from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The 14 members of the board are appointed by the Governor for a term of two years. The Board consists of the following representatives:
