Independent Monitor Named For Pueblo Regional Center

Denver, CO - The Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (Department) has contracted with the University of Colorado, School of Medicine for the services of Dr. Barry Martin, MD to serve as Independent Monitor at the Pueblo Regional Center (PRC). Dr. Martin will begin his Independent Monitor role in the next few weeks.
“The Department’s top priority is the health, safety and welfare of our residents at PRC,” said Susan Birch, MBA, BSN, RN, executive director for the Department. “Dr. Martin provides an independent perspective, ensuring residents are being properly cared for, and that appropriate processes and procedures are in place to report and respond to any incidents that arise.”
The specific duties of the Independent Monitor include:
- Monitor PRC reporting of all critical incidents according to policy, procedure and best practices;
- Review responses to critical incident reports and make recommendations for improvement;
- Evaluate PRC staffing to ensure adequate staffing ratios, and
- Ensure individuals’ rights are protected.
Dr. Martin is board certified with extensive experience in the primary care of adults with intellectual disabilities, adults with Down syndrome with complex needs and primary care of adults with multiple chronic conditions.
