DENVER — Friday, May 11, 2018 — Yesterday, Gov. John Hickenlooper appointed Cynthia Dianne Mares as a District Court Judge in the 18th Judicial District. She fills a vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Paul A. King.
Mares currently serves as an Associate Judge for the Aurora Municipal Court. In that role, she presides over a docket that includes a variety of criminal matters, proceedings for alleged violations of municipal ordinances, and traffic infractions. Previously, Mares was the Arapahoe County Public Trustee (2012-2016), an attorney at the Colorado Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel (2005-2012) and a Deputy State Public Defender in the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office (1990-2005). Mares earned her B.S. from the University of Colorado in 1980 and her J.D. from the University of Denver in 1989.
Mares’ appointment will be effective July 2, 2018.
