Solid waste inspection and enforcement
The intent of a successful inspection and enforcement program is to ensure a high rate of compliance with the regulations. Timely inspections and, when necessary, enforcement actions help facilities return to compliance and deter future non-compliance.
Staff conduct inspections at facilities that manage, treat, recycle, reuse and/or dispose of solid wastes.
Evaluate compliance with the Colorado solid waste regulations through a site tour in which waste management activities are observed, followed by a review of relevant documents.
Take enforcement action when appropriate.
Investigate complaints alleging mismanagement of solid waste.
Staff also oversee cleanup of releases of non-hazardous substances in soil to ensure the proper characterization, management and disposal of wastes.
