Establish Business Entity with Secretary of State’s Office


The first step in starting a new business is to file a document creating a new record with the Secretary of State’s Office. If you need to register a Trade name or reserve a name for your business you can also complete those forms online. Get started.

Obtain Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)


Most businesses will need to obtain a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) with the Internal Revenue Service in the event a corporation, limited liability company, limited partnership, limited liability partnership, OR sole proprietor with employees is being created. File Your Business with the State of Colorado Online


Colorado Business Express will guide you through the process of applying for a sales tax account, wage withholding account, and/or an unemployment insurance account.


If your business does not qualify to file online for your sales and wage-withholding tax accounts you can download and complete CR 0100 form and mail it to Colorado Department of Revenue, Colorado Business Registration and file in person or by mail. If your business does not qualify to file online for your UI tax purposes; you can register a business with Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. You can download and complete UITL-100 form and file in person or by mail. Once the UITL-100 form is complete and certain criteria are met, the business is assigned a UI tax account number and an initial UI tax rate.
