About this Case:

On December 23, 2009 at approximately 4:00 pm the Colorado Springs Police Communication Center received a call from the medical staff at Memorial Hospital Emergency Department indicating they were treating an assault victim who had life threatening injuries. The victim, Greg Carter was being treated for a traumatic brain injury possibly caused by a beer bottle since medical staff had removed glass from the victim's scalp. During the investigation, it was determined Mr. Carter had returned to his residence the night of December 22, 2009 and was acting odd. Family members asked Mr. Carter where he had been that evening and he indicated he had been on Peterson Road when he ran out of gas. Mr. Carter had been driving a 1996 black Chevrolet Camaro. At the time of Mr. Carter's odd behavior, the family did not see any visible injuries. The family requested he should go to the hospital, but he refused and stated he just wanted to go to bed. The following day, December 23, 2009, Mr. Carter's son again requested his father go to the hospital or he (the son) would call 011 and have medical personnel respond to their residence. Subsequently, Mr. Carter was taken to Memorial Hospital by his son where he later died from his injuries.
