On Thursday, December 18, 1975, The Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of an apparently deceased male in a vehicle stopped along I-25 near the Arvada Street exit. Upon arriving, officers found 28 year old Donald R. Laabs, deceased from gunshot wounds. Donald Robert Laabs, was a Sergeant with the Manitou Springs Police Department. Dozens of persons associated with Sergeant Laabs, both personally and professionally, were interviewed over the next several months; however no viable suspect(s) were identified.
